Story of my T-shirt Design: Disability Rights are Human Rights

“Disability Rights are Human Rights.” I started designing clothes for neurodiverse people after the death of Freddie Gray, who was a disabled young man that was manhandled by unknowing police officers. I wanted to embolden the community with my designs - and to ensure incidents like Freddie’s never happened again. Although, I hear more cases about people with other disabilities enduring the same fate; onlookers unsure if someone’s deaf, blind, or handicap. So in 2021, I’m going to open my work to more conditions - starting with this one. It uses ASL, Braille, the neurodiversity infinity sign, and the disabled...

Why We Care about Autism Acceptance Month

Why Care about Autism Awareness Month?

Creating a Daily Schedule

Creating a Daily Schedule

If you want to help acclimate children to new situations, always create schedules for them. Planning activities can help grasp the responsibilities of the day. Here are some tips to get started:   Timers Always remember that a schedule can be undermined without the tracking of time. If one must maintain consistency, allocate a specific period of time for each activity. One way of accomplishing this is through timers. An alarm that signals when to start or finish a task would ease the child into the next step of their day. Prioritization Prioritizing what task is most important will structure the...

Activities to Help Cognitive Development

Activities to Help Cognitive Development

Cognitive development relates to the information processing and perceptual skill of brain development. It can often be characterized by how a child learns and interacts with the environment. In addition, cognitive skills can be gained by completing certain activities. Here are a few to further develop your child’s development: Describe Colors and Shapes! Describe different objects around the house to your child: “That apple is round and red. That computer is square and gray.” Doing this will reinforce the proper way of describing items, and help build the child’s comprehension skills. After awhile, begin asking your child to describe things to you: "Can you...
