Helen Keller - Better to be Blind and See with your Heart

Helen Adams Keller was born on June 27, 1880, in Alabama. When she was 19 months old, she got severely sick with a rare disease. The disease left her unable to see or hear.

Growing up, Helen learned to read braille and speak. She graduated from Radcliffe College in 1904. Then she wrote magazine articles that told people about blindness. She also wrote several books about her life.

In 1913, Keller began giving lectures, mainly for the American Foundation for the Blind. Most people had trouble understanding her words, so she took along someone who repeated them to the audience. Keller died in Westport, Connecticut, on June 1, 1968.

Simply, Helen Keller did not allow her disabilities to hold her back. Quite the contrary - she used her disabilities to accomplish her dreams.
